Le Méridien Kochi recently hosted a significant release, announcing a groundbreaking collaboration between Health Careers International (HCI), Arizona State University (ASU), and Ramsay Health Care Group. This moment of joy, commemorating two decades of HCI’s service to healthcare education, was followed by a shared vision for the future.
New Horizons in Healthcare Education and Innovation
The strategic alliance promises many areas of transformational learning, bringing together global expertise to present a contemporary curriculum. A key takeaway from this event was the launch of Healthovation, a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to raising awareness of international education, technological innovations, and healthcare career opportunities. It seeks to bring together professionals, educators, and innovators from a global platform to form a community dedicated to improving healthcare services and exploring new ideas.
Showcase Student Innovations at Ideathon 2024
Ideathon 2024 was a topic on which students proposed innovative projects for presenting a difficult healthcare solution. Among them, the top three winning projects that thrilled everyone are:
-
1st Place: Pneumatic Powered Robotic Exoskeleton
Presented by Team Zyro, SCT College of Engineering.
This exoskeleton is a lightweight, modular robotic device designed specifically for people with locomotor disabilities. It employs pneumatic actuators and provides other forms of enhanced strength and support during rehabilitation. The two limbs’ mobility is improved, with automatic hand motions capable of lifting up to 39.2 kg: this represents a promising approach to improving mobility and regaining independence. -
2nd Prize: Hand Rehabilitation Game
Lakshmi A. Menon, Megha Sivaramakrishnan, and Rita Canice Rodrigues.
This innovative project has been designed specifically for elderly patients suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Patients can use a gamebased rehabilitation system to control a Flappy Bird-like game using a pressure sensor and a rubber bulb, thereby improving hand mobility and strength. A real-time feedback system motivates users to continue doing rehabilitation exercises, which leads to faster recovery. -
3rd Prize: AI-Assisted Cancer Tumor Segmentation
Presented by Arunkumar V, Harihara Sudhan and Hrithik Roshan.
This project proposes one of the first AI tools that employ deep learning for precise medical image analysis. The tool focuses on pancreatic tumor segmentation and employs the Attention UNet architecture, achieving exceptional sensitivities and accuracies for the detection of subtle tumors with intricate details. The project received a favorable Dice score of 0.70, indicating significant clinical potential in early cancer detection and personalized therapy.
Visual In-sights and Cultural Exhibition
At the conclusion of the event, there was a fascinating display of India’s extensive cultural heritage. It was a joyful memento for the audience in the form of mesmerising performances, such as Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kalarippayattu, and Theyyam, which are all examples of classical art forms. This cultural extravaganza was a visual treat, and it successfully incorporated the progressive theme while maintaining a harmonious connection to tradition.
Along with this strategic partnership, the launch of Healthovation is a major step towards changing the face of healthcare education around the world, which will have far-reaching effects on both students and the health sector as a whole.
